DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an email validation system used to verify that an e-mail message has been sent by an authorized individual or mail server. An electronic signature is attached to the email message’s header using a private cryptographic key. When the email is received, a public key that is available in the global DNS database is used to verify who actually sent it and whether the content has been modified in any way. The primary function of DomainKeys Identified Mail is to hamper the widespread spam and scam email messages, as it makes it impossible to forge an email address. If an email is sent from an email address claiming to belong to your bank, for instance, but the signature doesn’t match, you will either not get the message at all, or you will get it with a warning notice that most probably it’s not a genuine one. It depends on email providers what exactly will happen with an email which fails the signature check. DomainKeys Identified Mail will also offer you an added layer of protection when you communicate with your business partners, for instance, as they can see that all the emails that you send are authentic and have not been modified in the meantime.
DomainKeys Identified Mail in Cloud Hosting
The DomainKeys Identified Mail functionality is pre-activated for all domains that are hosted in a cloud hosting account on our cloud platform, so you won’t have to do anything on your end to turn it on. The only requirement is that the given domain should be hosted in a hosting account on our end using our MX and NS resource records, so that the emails will go through our mail servers. The private cryptographic key will be generated on the server and the TXT resource record, which includes the public key, will be published to the global DNS database automatically, so you will not have to do anything manually on your end in order to enable this option. The DKIM email authentication system will allow you to send out credible emails, so if you’re sending a newsletter or offers to customers, for instance, your email messages will always reach their target destination, while unsolicited third parties won’t be able to spoof your email addresses.
DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Hosting
The DomainKeys Identified Mail feature is offered by default with any domain that’s registered through a semi-dedicated server account with us. The domain should also use our name servers, so that its DNS records are managed by our platform. The latter makes it possible for a special TXT record to be created, which is in fact the public key that verifies if a specific email message is legitimate or not. This record is created as soon as a brand new domain is registered in a semi-dedicated account through the Hepsia Control Panel and at the same time, a private key is generated on our mail servers. If you use our web and email hosting services, your email messages will always reach their target destination and you will not have to worry about unsolicited parties spoofing your addresses for scamming or spamming purposes, which is essential in case you use email messages to touch base with your business collaborators.
